It is a joy to have the privilege to work alongside Fazia. She has been my executive assistant since 2001 and she – along with Priscilla – now provides an extraordinary care in not only supporting and serving our clients and me but also now Dave and Brynne. She has a B.A. from Hunter College.
And she loves to learn new things!
And here is the thing that I wish she could bottle because we could sell it by the case: she does so much for all of us and our clients with such a high internal demand for excellence but with no sense of overwhelm. When I call Fazia asking for help 4-5 times across the day she is fully present and upbeat even though I know that she is also integrating her role as a mom of three awesome young children: Noah, Caden and Safana. Her husband Mike proposed at Lincoln Center during “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and they were married on the 4th of July.
Fazia has learned across years to work with an integrated adaptable lifestyle that allows her to look after all of what matters so much in her life in a meaningful way. This means both emails at odd hours as well as mid-day parent teacher conferences! One of our successes as a firm I think is revealing ways that awesome people who care deeply about their work and each other to have rich rich rich family lives because of flexibility and ingenuity… Fazia has been able to telecommute 90% from Long Island since we started Coburn Ventures in 2005. We do a lot of ambient video nowadays which is extremely efficient.
And she tolerates me with all my many many specifics! She is highly dedicated and conscientious and I have been so fortunate that she seems to have believed in me greatly since she started way back in early 2001. What luck on my part!
Fazia loves to travel and she loves her big big close-knit family and often combines both in events she plans.
She is the youngest of 7 and her husband Mike also comes from a large family and there are loads of kids in the next generation.
There are many many birthday parties. Large birthday parties. When I recently described to Fazia that we had a large family gathering of 31 I said I realized that her family wouldn’t even consider such a gathering as breaking a sweat! 50 is a good starter number. Fazia’s mom makes the world’s best potato balls by the way.

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”
